About Me2023-12-12T20:04:11+00:00

I WENT FROM BEING HEALTHY AND ACTIVE TO A FULL-TIME CANCER PATIENT. TWICE.

hello

I’m Tara

A Psychotherapist, Cancer Coach, and, a 2x Cancer Survivor.

My life’s path has woven a unique tapestry of strength, understanding, and dedication. Now, I dedicate my life to helping survivors like you discover strength, navigate the storm, mourn the loss of who you were, and embrace the powerful, resilient soul you’ve become. I want you to make peace with your past and boldly step into your future without fear and anxiety.

My Story:

At 25, in the prime of my life – a health-conscious vegetarian who was a nonsmoker, nondrinker, and workout queen – I was dealt an unexpected card: an aggressive form of breast cancer. My days, once filled with vigor, were replaced by surgeries, chemo, and radiation. Being the youngest at the oncology center, I felt like an outsider amongst peers and friends alike. The strain on my emotional and physical health was immeasurable.

Yet, life had another test in store. At 30, with a 9-month-old baby in tow, I faced cancer once again. This wasn’t just another chapter; it felt like an entirely new saga. Surgeries and lengthy chemo sessions (8-hour infusions) consumed my days. The physical exhaustion was overwhelming and the psychological impact of not only losing my hair, but also my eyelashes and eyebrows felt unbearable. I would feel so anxious wondering if I would even be alive to see my daughter’s major life events.  Overwhelmed with fatigue, guilt, and a sense of betrayal from my body, I yearned for understanding and comfort.

 The Silent Struggle:

The medical world has made leaps in treating cancer; many have been gifted a second chance at life, but the emotional aftermath often remains in the shadows. Celebrating the end of treatment with a bell ring is symbolic and we are expected to wear a badge of gratitude, but what follows? The haunting fears of recurrence, grief, apprehension about the future, the emotional scars, the weight of societal expectations, and the lingering physical effects like “chemo brain”—they often remain our silent battles. However…

We smile and nod, pretend everything is fine, yet deep down, we yearn for someone to truly understand the myriad emotions bubbling beneath.

My Mission:

My personal battles with cancer inspired a deeper purpose: to offer genuine, informed support to fellow survivors. Experience taught me resilience; education equipped me to guide others.  I pursued graduate studies, became a clinical therapist, and gained invaluable insights as an oncology social worker. Beyond my personal experience, I’ve immersed myself in specialized training to become trauma informed. Recognizing the profound connection between sleep and well-being, I even delved into a two-year sleep medicine program.
